See TracTickets

It mainly depends on the virtualization. The caster needs stable network access and also log writing shouldn't be delayed much. It does not need strict realtime thought.
So when you operate the caster in a virtualization where that's available nothing prevents you from using it. Also keep in mind that the virtual system must have enough additional resources for running background tasks (disk checks, backup, ...). The BKG casters are currently operated in virtual Linux 64 bit systems.
OTOH when the virtual system has delays of a few hundred milliseconds or more (i.e. when other virtual machines on the same system have heavy load) you wont be happy with it in the long run. Naturally it also depends on the load of the caster itself.
